Course Overview
Using a variety of learning modalities—including case
studies, group exercises, and site visits—this course
is designed to build capacity at the country level for the management
of expanded resources for HIV/AIDS. It will assist program managers
to formulate intervention strategies for HIV/AIDS prevention,
care, and treatment; to address priorities for rapid scale-up;
to use evidence-based approaches to inform programming decisions;
and to establish systems for Strategic Information, including
surveillance, targeted evaluation, and operations research.
Course Goals
To improve knowledge and skills in HIV/AIDS program planning
by:

Using The Synergy Project’s
five-module programming cycle for Assessment,
Strategic Planning, Program Design,
Implementation Monitoring,
and Evaluation (APDIME)
to contribute to strategic and effective management of HIV/AIDS
programs
-
Understanding the importance
and practical elements of participatory approaches
-
Addressing challenges
in HIV/AIDS programming, resource allocation, and accountability
in the use of expanded resources for HIV/AIDS
-
Creating a forum for exchange
of experiences and successes with colleagues in diverse
settings
-
Drawing on lessons learned
and best practices, and on the use of evidence-based data
for decision-making at each stage of the programming cycle
-
Addressing approaches
for implementation monitoring and evaluation and uses of
Strategic Information
Who Should Attend
This course is an introduction to the HIV/AIDS program planning
process. This course is appropriate for:
-
Individuals with new responsibility
for HIV/AIDS program design, management, and implementation.
-
Individuals involved in
the rapid scale-up of HIV/AIDS care, treatment, and prevention
programs, whether funded by the President’s Emergency
Plan for AIDS Relief, WHO 3x5, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS,
Malaria and Tuberculosis, or other mechanisms.
- NGO, FBO, CBO HIV/AIDS program managers;
managers of public- or private-sector programs, members of networks
of people living with HIV/AIDS, and donor representatives are
encouraged to apply.
Language
The course will be conducted in English, with simultaneous interpretation
for French-speaking participants during formal technical presentations.
Informal discussions will take place in English.
