Course Overview
Using a variety of learning modalities—including case studies, group exercises, and site visits—this course is designed to build capacity at the country level for the management of expanded resources for HIV/AIDS. It will assist program managers to formulate intervention strategies for HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment; to address priorities for rapid scale-up; to use evidence-based approaches to inform programming decisions; and to establish systems for Strategic Information, including surveillance, targeted evaluation, and operations research.

Course Goals
To improve knowledge and skills in HIV/AIDS program planning by:

  • Using The Synergy Project’s five-module programming cycle for Assessment, Strategic Planning, Program Design, Implementation Monitoring, and Evaluation (APDIME) to contribute to strategic and effective management of HIV/AIDS programs
  • Understanding the importance and practical elements of participatory approaches
  • Addressing challenges in HIV/AIDS programming, resource allocation, and accountability in the use of expanded resources for HIV/AIDS
  • Creating a forum for exchange of experiences and successes with colleagues in diverse settings
  • Drawing on lessons learned and best practices, and on the use of evidence-based data for decision-making at each stage of the programming cycle
  • Addressing approaches for implementation monitoring and evaluation and uses of Strategic Information
